GHS golfers stretch lead to 98 strokes

Gloucester High School golfers stretched their lead over the Peninsula District to 98 strokes with the team’s win at the Piankatank River Golf Club on Aug. 26. 

The Dukes compiled a team score of 322 at Piankatank, followed by Warwick with 346. Hunter Martin led Gloucester with a two-over-par 74 to earn his second consecutive medalist honor. Martin finished his round with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes, two of the toughest on the course.

Cameron Baker was next for the Dukes and second overall with a 75. Teammates Trent Green, Nathan Gross and Davey Grimm were fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, with scores of 86, 87 and 88.  Gloucester has an overall team score of 968 strokes after three outings, all won by the Dukes. Warwick follows with 1,066, Menchville has 1,198 and Woodside is fourth with 1,303.
