GHS golfers still atop district

Gloucester High School golfers continued to hold their lead in the Peninsula District and were comfortably ahead of second place Menchville last week. 

The Dukes were scheduled to play their final regular season match on Tuesday at Kiskiack and head to the 5A Regional Tournament at Sewells Point Golf Course in Norfolk on Monday. 

At the Woodlands Golf Course last Thursday, Gloucester won with a team score of 332, followed by Menchville with 375, Warwick with 389 and Hampton with 391.

Blake Taylor was the medalist, turning in a 78 for the day. Gloucester’s Nathan Gross was in a three-way tie for second with two Menchville golfers, each with scores of 81.

Jeremy Carr and a Menchville golfer tied for fifth, each at 86, and Matthew Hudgins was seventh with an 87.  The Dukes came in second to the Monarchs on Sept. 18 at The Hamptons Golf Course. Menchville turned in a 358 while Gloucester had a 373. Hampton was third with 387 and Kecoughtan was fourth with 420.
