GHS golfers lead the field

After two outings, Gloucester High School golfers are well on track to take the Peninsula District crown once again. The Dukes won the Aug. 9 opener at the Gloucester Country Club and led the field at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk on Monday.

Gloucester’s Hunter Martin was the medalist for both matches. The GHS senior shot a 69 on the home course and posted a 75 on the more challenging Sleepy Hole course.

Others contributing to the win at home were Gloucester’s Nathan Gross with 72, Cameron Baker with 73, Jeremy Carr with 80, Lathan Burnett with 84 and Blake Taylor with 86 for a team total of 295. Menchville was second with 338. 

At Sleepy Hole, Baker shot 77, Gross had a 79, Carr had an 81, Taylor had a 92 and Burnett shot a 97 to go with Martin’s 75 for a team score of 312.  Martin, Baker and Gross swept the top three slots overall in the first two matches. Menchville had a 351 for the round.
