GHS golfers edged by Warriors, retain district lead

Gloucester High School golfers dropped their first Peninsula District golf match of the season on Sept. 14, finishing one stroke behind the winners from Kecoughtan at The Hamptons. The Dukes still lead the district overall with a 78-stroke advantage over the second-place Warriors, and are well on their way to a fourth PD crown with two matches remaining.

Zack Robb was the medalist at The Hamptons with a round of 73. Zach Kounse was next for Gloucester with a 76, followed by Kyle Flippin with an 84 and Kyle Rowe with an 87 for a team score of 320. GHS coach Jerry Morgan said Robb and Kounse each played well in The Hamptons event, and he hoped they would play equally well at Deer Run yesterday.
The final match of the PD schedule is slated for next Wednesday at The Woodlands. After that round, the Dukes head to the Eastern Region Tournament set for Oct. 3 and 4 at Bide-a-Wee in Portsmouth.
