GHS golfers coast to district title

With two matches remaining and a 189-stroke lead over the closest competitors from Menchville, the Gloucester High School golf team is coasting to another Peninsula District title.

Gloucester’s Zack Kounse was the district medalist with a 78 in the match at Deer Run on Tuesday. Also contributing to the GHS score of 329 were Zack Robb with a 79, Kyle Row with an 84 and Larry Brown at 88. Additionally on the links for the Dukes, Hector Rios shot an 89 at Deer Run and Dylan Hogge came in at 91.

Denbigh was second in the match with 350 team strokes and Menchville was third with 356. A match last week at Cypress Creek was declared a "no match" after a threatening storm drove the golfers off the course.

The district plays Sept. 20 at The Woodlands.
