GHS girls win volleyball opener

The Gloucester High School girls’ volleyball team opened the Peninsula District season with a win at Denbigh on Monday. The Lady Dukes let go of a six-point lead in the first game and the Patriots pulled out a 25-23 win but that would be their only victory. The Gloucester girls went on to take it, 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20.
With a strong presence at the net, middle hitter Colleen Lemay led the Dukes with nine aces and nine hits. Melisa Williamson had five hits and Kelsee Oliver contributed five aces and five hits. Samantha Coates was credited with 12 assists and five aces and Brianna Norris had eight assists and five aces.

The Gloucester front line of Dezeray Spencer, Meagan Wallace and Lizzy Bush had some great hits while Marina Paredes and Dezi Maynora led the defense. The Dukes continue district action on Monday at Warwick.
