GHS girls’ volleyball team off to 2-1 start

The Gloucester High School girls’ volleyball team is off to a 2-1 start in the Peninsula District with wins over Heritage and Bethel and a loss to Menchville. The loss to the visiting Monarchs on Monday came in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-22.

The Lady Dukes dropped their first two games 25-17 and 25-20 on the Hurricanes’ court on Sept. 14, but bounced back to win the next pair by scores of 25-14 and 25-10. Gloucester then prevailed 15-10 in the tie breaker.

Colleen Lemay recorded 10 kills and three blocks in the win, Kelsee Oliver had eight aces and 24 assists and Samantha Coates contributed three kills and 24 assists.

Gloucester also won its home opener with Bethel on Sept. 12. The Dukes took the opening game 23-13 but lost the second game 26-24. They sealed a victory with scores of 25-13 and 25-17 in taking the final two matchups.
