GHS girls post 7-1 soccer win at Hampton

A win and a loss in recent soccer action left the Gloucester High School varsity girls’ record at 3-3. The Dukes took a 9-0 loss at Maury last week, with the Commodores pouring in eight first-half goals.

Gloucester got back on the winning side with a 7-1 at Hampton on Tuesday. Senior Gwen Robins scored the first two goals of the match, both assisted by junior Brooke Cheatham. Sophomore Alyssa Fulford scored the third goal from a corner kick after the ball landed inside the 18-yard box. 

Cheatham scored the first goal of the second half to make it 4-0. Hampton then prevented the shutout by scoring on a penalty kick to make it 4-1.

Cheatham notched her second goal of the game from a through ball behind the Crabbers’ defense sent by senior Brooklynn Splitt. Sophomore Lydia Hart hit the final two goals of the game with shots taken from 20 yards out.

Gloucester will play at Woodside Friday and host Heritage on Tuesday.  ...
