The Gloucester High School varsity softball team improved to 16-3 with victories last week over Menchville, Kecoughtan and Phoebus.

The Lady Dukes ralled from a seventh inning one-run deficit Friday to defeat the Menchville Monarchs, 5-2. Mackenzie Smith, in relief of Kirsten Greene, picked up the victory. Gloucester took a 1-0 lead in the third inning off an RBI double by Greene. The Monarchs tied the score in the bottom of the fifth off an unearned run.
Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, Jessica Hogge led off with a walk and promptly stole second. Malaika Rilee’s sacrifice bunt moved Hogge to third. Bridget Motley’s sharply hit ground ball to the shortstop drove in Hogge to knot the game at 2-2 with Motley getting to first base on the misplayed ball. Courtney Hall went on to get a two-RBI single and Greene scored on a ground out to take a 5-2 lead.
