GHS girls pick up two shutout wins in soccer

The Gloucester varsity girls’ soccer team notched two wins last week, including an eight-goal shutout over visiting Hampton on Friday. The Dukes got off to an early start and led 6-0 at the half. 

Cieara Berg headed the ball to the ground in front of Haley Hamilton who finished it to go up, 1-0. Gwen Robins then scored a pair of goals and Marranda Hansford added a fourth to make it 4-0. Sam Leber scored on a penalty kick and Kessa Romero upped the score to 6-0, putting a rebound off the Hampton goalie’s hand into the net.

In the second half, Brooke Cheatham scored the seventh goal on a breakaway after winning a one-on-one with the keeper. Christina Parnell scored the final goal after a corner kick from Cheatham and the mercy rule kicked in to end the game.

Gloucester also got a 2-0 win at Warhill on March 22. After a scoreless first half, Cheatham took a successful shot from outside the 18 and slid the ball by the keeper to make it 1-0. Berg assisted the second goal...
