GHS girls now 5-0 with shutouts over Denbigh, Churchland, Bethel

Gloucester High School’s varsity softball players moved to 5-0 on the season with a trio of shutouts in recent action. 

The Dukes overpowered visiting Denbigh, 22-0, on Friday. Gloucester put the game away early with 12 first inning runs on only five hits. Kirsten Greene and Makenna Keyes had the big hits of the inning as they both drove in two runs on singles. 

Courtney Hall had a pair of hits and four RBIs, including a second-inning home run. Tori Mielnick added two hits and three RBIs in the victory, Jessica Hogge and Emma West each had a double and Malaika Rilee had a triple. 

Greene picked up the pitching victory, striking out 12 batters and allowing only a fifth-inning single. She also drove in three runs.

Greene (3-0) pitched her second consecutive shutout in a 5-0 win at Churchland on Monday. She again struck out 12 for the Dukes while giving up two harmless singles.
