GHS girls improve to 11-0 after shutting out Woodside

After an 18-0 blowout of host Hampton last week, the Gloucester High School varsity girls improved their field hockey record to 11-0 with a six-goal shutout of host Woodside on Tuesday.

Alyssa O’Beirne led the Dukes against Hampton with three goals and two assists. Two goals each were scored by Elizabeth Thomas, Meg Teagle, Karagan Winfrey, Cara O’Beirne and H.P. Johnson. 

Goals also came from Brooke Billhimer, Kessa Romero, Caroline Putnam, Tally Vaughan and Maggie Ronan. Cara O’Beirne and Allison Goodwin had two assists each; assists also came from Carli Walke, Whitney Robins, Ronan, Vaughan, Winfrey, Thomas and Romero.

“We basically gave everybody some playing time and switched some people around to try them at different positions,” said Gloucester coach Mike Miller. “I think we got playing time out of it more than anything.” Playing at Woodside Tuesday, Miller said the Dukes got off to a slow start. “It took us awhile to get g...
