GHS girls hand Phoebus 28-0 loss

Gloucester High School varsity softball players defeated Phoebus Tuesday, 28-0, with what GHS coach Red Lindsay called "a lackluster effort." The win improved the Lady Dukes to 6-1 in Peninsula District standings.

Makayla Jenkins (5-1) threw a no-hitter for Gloucester and contributed three hits and four RBIs. Devon Smith also had three hits, including a second-inning triple, and drove in four runs. Morgan Haywood, Gabby Zarichny, Tori Brown, Alissa Upton and Brook Street all had multiple hits for the Dukes.

Gloucester is scheduled to host Bethel at 2 p.m. Saturday, travel to Heritage on Tuesday and host Woodside on Wednesday. Weekday games begin at 4:30 p.m.
