GHS girls fall to Varina, Bethel

The Lady Dukes of Gloucester High School will be looking to bounce back after dropping two varsity basketball games, one to Varina and the other to Bethel.

On Saturday, Gloucester took on Varina High School following the cancellation of a matchup with Denbigh, which has struggled to field a team this season. The Blue Devils of Varina went on to win the matchup, 51-37. Full statistics were not available at the time of publication.

Tuesday night saw the Bruins of Bethel travel to Gloucester for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. The first quarter was a defensive affair, with both teams holding their offensive opposition in check to the tune of a 9-6 score in favor of Bethel.

As the game elapsed both offenses found their rhythm, but the 28-point performance of Bethel’s Ayanna Chambers proved too much for the Lady Dukes.
