GHS girls fall to Islanders, 2-1

The Gloucester High School varsity girls got in only one game last week due to weather cancellations in the Garvey Soccer Tournament. The Lady Dukes lost to Poquoson, 2-1, last Thursday.

The Islanders were able to score two quick goals in the first half while the Dukes had minimal shots. Gloucester picked up some momentum in the second half and had several shots on goal. 

The shot that counted came from Gloucester junior Brooke Cheatham, assisted by junior Marranda Hansford, that got the Dukes on the board and trailing by just one score. 

Despite maintaining possession and taking many shots on frame, Gloucester was unable to produce more scoring and fell, 2-1. Sophomore goalie Zoe Fulford had some great saves in the half to prevent additional scoring by Poquoson.

Both the varsity and junior varsity Dukes are scheduled to play at Warhill today. ...
