Gloucester High School varsity softball players ended the 2017 season with a 10-4 loss to Menchville in the Conference 10 semifinals last week at Stoney Run.
The Dukes cut a 3-0 deficit to 3-2 in the third inning on an infield error and an RBI from Jessica Hogge. Down 4-2 in the fourth, Courtney Hall singled and later scored on a double from Bridget Motley to cut the lead to 4-3.
Kirsten Greene led off the sixth with a single and courtesy runner Autumn Burgess later scored on an RBI by Jackie Tobin to close out Gloucester scoring. The Monarchs went on to win it, 10-4.
Motley and Hall led the Dukes offensively with a single and a double each. Motley, Hogge and J. Tobin each contributed an RBI in the loss. Gloucester closed out their 2017 run at 17-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The Dukes bested Bethel, 26-0, in the first round of the tournament as Kayla Tobin picked up her fourth win of the season in relief of Greene.
