GHS girls dominating foes

Gloucester High School softball players continued to dominate Peninsula District opponents in recent action, with a 23-0 shutout of Hampton last week and a 7-0 victory over second place Menchville (11-2) on Tuesday. The undefeated Lady Dukes (15-0 overall; 13-0 in the PD) also posted a 14-inning, 5-4 win over a tough Group A team from Mathews High School last Thursday.

Makayla Jenkins pitched her ninth shutout of the season against the Monarchs on Tuesday, giving up only three hits. Jenkins struck out five on the day with just one walk. Two Monarchs made it to second base and one reached third, but that was as far as Menchville would go.
Taylor Distefano led the offense with three hits and two runs scored. Hannah Joyce added two hits and two RBIs and Gabby Zarichny chipped in with two RBIs for the Dukes. Ashley Williams contributed a sacrifice bunt to the effort.
