GHS girls beat Mathews 7-2 in tennis

The Gloucester High School Lady Dukes defeated their counterparts from Mathews last Thursday, 7-2, in a match between the two girls’ tennis teams.

Mathews had to forfeit number six singles and number three doubles due to insufficient players, putting the Lady Devils at a disadvantage.

The MHS wins came in first-seed singles and first-seed doubles. In the singles match, Connie Johnson continued her winning streak, beating Skyler Tena, 8-2, with some nice rallies at the end. In first-seed doubles, Johnson and Kylie Berry also kept their win streak alive, defeating Tenan and Meadow Spears, 8-4, in what started as a close match until Mathews broke away with aggressive net play.

The rest of the matches went Gloucester’s way. At second-seed singles, Kailee Morris defeated Berry, 8-3. Gracie King kept it going to Gloucester with an 8-0 win over Faith Lewis.
