GHS girls are a perfect 16-0

Gloucester High School varsity softball players added two more wins in recent action to stay perfect at 16-0. The Dukes have three games remaining in the regular season before the Conference 10 Tournament.

Gloucester defeated home-standing Hickory on Tuesday to move to 4-0 in conference play. Morgan Haywood pitched a three-hitter and Kaleigh Arnett drove in two runs to power the Dukes to victory.

Shelby Alto got things going early for Gloucester with a leadoff single and advanced to second on a single from Alyssa Shackleford. Haywood loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Alto then scored on a walk to Arnett and Shackleford scored on an infield single from Jessica Hogge for a 2-0 lead.

The Dukes rallied with two outs and no one on base in the fourth to grab a 4-0 advantage. Shackleford walked, Haywood was hit by a pitch and Arnett singled to right field to score Shackleford. Starr Patton came around to score when the right fielder misplayed the ball.
