GHS field hockey to host Jamboree Saturday

Gloucester High School varsity and junior varsity field hockey players will get their final preseason tune-up Saturday with the GHS Field Hockey Jamboree. 

Twenty-five or more teams will join the Dukes for play on multiple fields at GHS from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gloucester opens the 2019 season with a host of Woodside on Tuesday. The varsity game is slated for 4 p.m., followed by the jayvees at 5:30. The Dukes are also scheduled to host North Stafford on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Gloucester head coach Mike Miller and his 2018 state championship Dukes lost only three seniors to graduation. This year Miller has 14 seniors on his roster. The addition of Cox and First Colonial high schools to Gloucester’s 5A region will add a new twist this season.

“It certainly adds a lot of competition to 5A,” Miller said. “There are now 18 teams in 5A while other regions have only eight or nine teams. 5A is loaded.”  ...
