GHS field hockey players take top district honors

Several Gloucester High School varsity field hockey players recently received Peninsula All-District honors.

Senior Alexis Adams and junior Channy Johnson were named the Peninsula District’s Co-Players of the Year and Gloucester’s first-year head coach Joe Dougherty was named the Peninsula District’s Coach of the Year.

Named to the All-District First Team were forwards Channy Johnson and Reese Miller, midfielders Ainslee Brown, Aubrey Dorsey and Kamryn McDonough and defenders Alexis Adams, Kailee Morris and Avery Watkins.

Named to the All-District Second Team were forwards Lily Perger and Mackenzi Reese, midfielders Kiley Parker and Bailey Wilson, and defenders Leigha Germain and Aura Griggs. Honorable Mentions went to Bayleigh Andersen and Kareena Ferguson.

The undefeated Gloucester team was scheduled to play Maury High School at 5 p.m. yesterday at Powhatan Field in Norfolk with a berth to the Division 5 State Field Hockey Tournament on the line.
