GHS field hockey players named to All-Tidewater team

Four members of the Gloucester High School varsity field hockey team received All-Tidewater honors. Junior Charlotte Houtz and senior Peyton Sutton were named to first team, while seniors Ellary Miller and Addy Zabicki received second team distinctions.

All four players served as captains and also received first team all-state honors. While winning the third state championship in school history, this was the team’s first state championship in Class 4. Collectively, the team has garnered over 90 post-season awards.

Houtz has received many accolades, including her selection as Virginia State Class 4 Player of the Year. She led the Lady Dukes in scoring with 90 points, while also recording 50 assists.

During her senior season, she will be working towards leading her team back to the state tournament in her sixth season and hopes to eclipse 300 career points. Once she graduates from GHS in 2027, Houtz plans to continue her field hockey career at the University of Richmond.

Sutton scored 20 goals and recorded 20 assists this past season during her senior campaign. She finished her high school career in the Virginia Senior All-Star game. While playing four years of varsity-level field hockey, Sutton left a mark on the program with four state championship appearances and has received numerous awards. Sutton will continue playing field hockey at Randolph-Macon College in the fall.

Miller has served the GHS varsity field hockey team as a defender for the past four years. Her growth and flexibility to play both offensively and defensively has aided in the team’s success. She excelled on offensive corners, scoring the deciding goal in the final game of the Class 4 state championship.

Zabicki, the team’s goalkeeper, recorded over 50 shutout wins in her career and maintained an 88 percent save average. She made the biggest save of her career on the final shot of the state championship. She played her last match as a high school student in the Virginia Senior All-Star game. Zabicki will take her talents to Longwood University in the fall.
