GHS field hockey opens region with 10-0 win

Gloucester High School varsity field hockey players posted a 10-goal shutout over Norview to open the 5A Regional Tournament at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach on Monday. 

The Dukes, who hold the first seed in the tourney, held eighth seeded Norview to zero shots on goals. “We played really well. We were intense, focused, controlled the tempo of the game and came out early and scored,” said GHS coach Mike Miller. 

Kessa Romero had three goals and two assists in the win and Allison Goodwin had two goals and two assists. Elizabeth Thomas and Megan Teagle each had a goal and an assist. Goals were also scored by Farren Winter, Cara O’Beirne and H.P. Johnson and Kate Neikirk contributed an assist.

Gloucester was scheduled to take on Maury at 5 p.m. yesterday in the tournament semifinal at the training center. Maury, seeded fifth, ousted fourth seeded Warwick on Monday.
