GHS field hockey off to 3-0 start

Gloucester High School varsity field hockey players are off to a 3-0 start with wins over Woodside, Atlee of Richmond and Kellam of Virginia Beach.

The Dukes beat host Woodside, 8-0, on Sept. 1 in their first Peninsula District contest. Bri Greene scored twice and Gloucester got goals from Molly Vaughan, Maddie Hutson, Cheyenne Hollandsworth, Lauren Petty, Taylor Green and Cassidy Goodwin.

Goodwin also contributed four assists and Alexis Lester, Karly Harwood and Brittany Romero assisted goals.

The Dukes hosted Kellam on Aug. 27 and bested the Knights, 6-0. “I was really expecting a tighter game with them. I was quite happy with the way we performed. It was a strong defensive game for us and our defense fed up to our offense,” said GHS coach Mike Miller.

Romero and Harwood had two goals each in the win and Vaughan and Hutson also scored, Goodwin tallied three assists and assists were credited to Romero, Vaughan, Hutson, Bailey Miller and Whitney Robins.
