GHS field hockey has outscored opponents an amazing 91 to 0

The Gloucester High School varsity girls are rolling through their 2013 field hockey schedule with a perfect record. Anchored by a solid defense, the Dukes have scored 91 goals and given up none.

Coach Mike Miller said his girls are using a formula that works. The forwards pressure the ball up the field, the midfielders back them up and the backs make sure nothing gets near the Gloucester goal.

"I’m so proud of the way they are really playing as a team, really backing each other up and supporting each other," said Miller. He said center midfielder Cassidy Goodwin, a sophomore, particularly does a remarkable job of controlling the ball at her position.

The Dukes latest shutout was against visiting Tallwood on Tuesday. Gloucester won the game, 6-0, with four goals from junior Tori Harwood and one each from seniors Courtnie Greene and Kayla Sadler. Goodwin provided three assists, while Mattie Hutson and Harwood had one each.
