GHS field hockey advances to regional semifinals

Gloucester High School field hockey players advanced to the Group 5A South Tournament semifinals Tuesday with a 6-3 win over Kellam at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

The Dukes are scheduled to take on Princess Anne today with a bid to the state tournament at stake. Princess Anne beat Hickory, 4-0, in the quarterfinals.

“There are things we need to do better to get ready for Princess Anne,” Gloucester coach Mike Miller said Wednesday morning. “We have to play well to beat them. They are a good team, we are a good team. Ninety percent of the game is mental. We just need to get ready.”

Ashley Bohi had a hat trick in the win over Kellam, Tori Harwood scored twice and Cassidy Goodwin had a goal. Goodwin also contributed four scoring assists and assists came from Harwood, Brittany Romero and Maddie Hutson.
