Gloucester High School field hockey players started the Conference 10 Tournament Tuesday with a six-goal shutout of Menchville at Old Dominion University.
Tori Harwood led the offensive effort with four goals, Cassidy Goodwin had a goal and three assists and Brittany Romero scored. Other assists were provided by Maddie Hutson and Karly Harwood.
“It was nice to play on a turf field and to get back in the flow of things,” said GHS coach Mike Miller, whose Dukes had not played a game for almost a week. “Our passing game was good and the defense did a good job after making a couple of early mistakes.”
The win advanced Gloucester to the final of the four-team tournament, which will be played tomorrow at ODU. The game will be a rematch with Hickory, the only team to beat the Dukes during the regular season. The Hawks prevailed 2-1 in the first meeting on Oct. 13.
