GHS field hockey 2nd in region

After a 6-0 regular season, the Gloucester High School varsity field hockey team posted a decisive 6-0 victory over Hickory High School in the Region 5A Tournament semifinal April 14 but closed the season with a 2-1 loss to Cox High School Friday in the regional final. Both games were played at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

“It’s a whole different game on turf, and we only got to practice on it Monday, but we played really well in that game,” said Gloucester coach Mike Miller of his team’s 6-0 win over Hickory.

Channy Johnson and Cara O’Beirne led the Dukes’ offensive charge with two goals each. Aubree Dorsey and Abigail Clayton also added goals. Meg Crowley contributed two assists; assists also came from Brooke Billhimer, Ainslee Brown, Christina Riva and Johnson.
