GHS falls in conference semifinals

Gloucester High School varsity baseball players closed out the season last week in the Conference 10 Baseball Tournament at the War Memorial Stadium in Hampton. 

The Dukes defeated Bethel, 3-2, in the quarterfinals on May 25 but lost, 3-0, to Nansemond River in the semifinals last Thursday. 

Gloucester led, 3-0, in the first inning against the Bruins with a double from Brady Hudgins and a sacrifice fly from Jason Wood. Hudgins was two-for-three in the win with two RBIs and a run scored. Ridge Motley was one-for-two with a run scored and Nick Brandt got the win on the mound.

Following the tournament, Dukes’ shortstop Michael Diodato was named to the All-Conference 10 First Team. GHS outfielders Cody Brown and Hudgins, pitcher Brandt and utility player Wood were all named to the All-Conference 10 Second Team. ...
