GHS crushes Phoebus in baseball, 24-1

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team held a 12-6 record going into this Tuesday’s regular season ending game against Hampton. The Dukes are sixth in 5A East standings with a chance at regional play.

Recent games include losses to Menchville and Kecoughtan and a lopsided 24-1 win over the visiting Phoebus Phantoms.

Menchville

The Dukes watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 3-0 loss to Menchville on May 11. The Monarchs took the lead on a single in the second inning. The pitching was strong on both sides. Menchville pitchers struck out six, while Gloucester Dukes sat down five.

In the second inning, Menchville got its offense started, scoring one run when Anthony Hall singled.

One bright spot for Gloucester Dukes was a double by Carter Miller in the second inning. Cash Watkins took the loss for Dukes. He allowed five hits and one earned run over six innings, striking out five and walking zero.
