GHS cross country teams win first PD meet

The Gloucester High School cross country teams won their first Peninsula District meet with Warwick and Hampton on Sept. 14 at the Mariners’ Museum.

The GHS girls swept the first five places for a perfect score of 15-50. Megan McGee led the pack with a time of 21:52, followed by Alyssa Lass, Ali Adickes, Ruby Williams, Gibson Hylton and Makala White.

The GHS boys’ team won, 27-32, led by Joshua Shackelford in 17:43. Aaron Shipe was second, Andrew Wible was sixth, Colton Spence was eighth and Noah Bondurant was 10th. 

The Gloucester harriers have also participated in two invitationals, including the 58th annual William and Mary Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

In the varsity race, McGee placed 48th in a field of 173 runners at William and Mary with a new personal record time of 21:18. Lass, Adickes, White, Williams and Katie Saunders also scored for Gloucester as the girls placed 17th  and just ahead of Menchville in a field of 23 teams.
