GHS cross country teams qualify for state meet

The Gloucester High School cross country teams enjoyed great success on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the regional meet, with both the girls’ and the boys’ team qualifying for state completion. 

The boys came in second place out of 15 teams and the girls came in third out of 15 teams. This is the first time since 2007 the boys have qualified for states and the first time ever for the girls’ team. Everyone ran a smart race, putting themselves in the best position to qualify for states.

The Dukes had multiple runners placing in the top 15 of their race making them some of the top runners in the region. Josh Shackelford placed second overall, running a time of 16:19; Tanner Baker placed 10th with a 17:20 and Conner O’Beirne placed 12th with a 17:33. Following them were Colton Spence (18:09), Justin Burgess (18:26), Mike Toms (18:34) and Josh Ipock (18:51).
