GHS cross country teams qualify for regionals

Both the Gloucester High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams qualified for VHSL 5A South Regional Meet with their performances in the Conference championships Oct. 29 at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

The girls finished third overall led by freshman Megan McGee who was 12th in 21:32.83. She was followed by Mackenzie Marbain with a new personal record time of 21:45.11 for 15th place. Mia Robinson was 17th, Maddy Hogge was 20th, Lauren Hill was 21st, Alissa Adickes was 22nd and Erin Bristow was 27th. McGee and Marbain both earned All-Conference honors.

The boys were fourth overall led by junior Logan Touchstone in 16th place. Chase Lanham was 17th with a new personal record time, Aaron Waters was 22nd, David Sadikov was 24th with a new personal record, Chris Early was 26th with a new personal record, Andrew Wible was 31st and Alex Morales was 34th.

The regional meet was scheduled for yesterday, also at Bells Mill Park.

Prior to the Conference meet, the GHS team closed the regular season on Oct. 22 at Norfolk Academy where 31 of 44 runners set new personal records for the season.

The GHS girls were third overall and led by McGee in 21:03.62. She was followed by Adickes, Marbain, eighth grader Chasity Lass, Hogge, Robinson, Jasmin Scott and freshman Kaylynn Glockner.

The junior varsity girls also finished third overall led for the first time by eighth grader Bethany Spence in 24:26.02. Spence placed eighth overall and was followed by Lindsay Ridisill, Brooke Cheatham, Samantha Sigmon, Macy Calder, Sara Eddy, Mary Beach, Kaylyn Berg, Molly Morgan and Bailey Hamilton.

The varsity boys finished sixth overall and were led by eighth grader Joshua Shackelford in 18:37.39. He was followed by Touchstone, Lanham, Sadikov, Jacob Durren, Early, Wible, Jordan Dickie, Aaron Shipe, Joseph Lineberry, Antonio Morales and Caleb Field.

The junior varsity boys were second overall led by junior William Schultz in 21:22.80. He was followed by Thomas Dickenson, Colton Spence, Russell Simpson, Titus Fox, Carter Hartley, Jackson Whaley, Jeremy Simmons, Nicholas McGlone, Donald Calder, Chris Garrett, Nicholas Barefoot-Garcia and Dylan Terry.
