The Gloucester High School crew had a busy weekend, with rowers competing at the Al Urquia Regatta in Occoquan on Saturday before traveling to New Jersey for Sunday’s Cooper Cup.
At Occoquan, the women’s second four of Brianna Priode, Madison Hutson, Mikaela Extine, Hannah Cagle and coxswain Emily Freudenberg won its event with a time of 6:10.1. Also winning was the novice eight of Kara Smith, Sara Hood, Tia Ilog, Jenna Proulx, Maddie Lee, Kassidy Brown, Mackenzie Marbane and coxswain Kaitlyn Thomas with a time of 5:42.8.
Finishing their races in second place were the first four of Elizabeth Keane, Kendall Worland, Gabrielle Lauer and Hannah Beverage with coxswain Matthew Hendrix and Joel Kidd, Logan Hutson, Chris Smith, and Jeremy Frush with coxswain Meagan Martin.
Also placing second was the second four of Gilbert Owens, James Lane, Adam Hedrick, Nick Booth and coxswain Callie Dunston. The men’s novice eight was fourth.
In the Cooper Cup, the women’s novice eight was second among 16 crews with a time of 6:53.36 and the women’s first four won its heat and took second overall. The women’s second four was third in its heat and fifth among 18 crews with a time of 8:32.49.
Gloucester varsity rowers head to the final Mathews regatta of the season this weekend while the novices will compete in the Ted Phoenix Regatta in Occoquan.
