GHS closes season with 49-13 loss to Denbigh

Gloucester High School varsity football players had a dismal outing to close the 2010 season, losing to Denbigh 49-13 for a season record of 2-8 overall and 1-8 in the Peninsula District. The Dukes finished just ahead of winless Heritage in the PD standings.

"I just don’t think we really came ready to play," said GHS coach Sonny Merchant. "We didn’t have a very good week of practice, just not disciplined. Maybe they were distracted by the end of the quarter and grades. There seemed to be a lot of discontinuity and that’s exactly what happened in the game."
Gloucester got on the board early after an interception by Mark Greenauer on the first Denbigh play to give the Dukes the ball. Shamar Marsh then found some space and turned his carry into a 70-yard touchdown run. Gloucester added six more points when J.B. Bennett later scored on a 30-yard run.
