The Gloucester High School boys’ volleyball team advanced to the 5A South Regional Tournament as the Conference 10 runners-up but lost to Maury in the opening round of regionals on Monday. 

As the regular season champions and the number one conference tournament seed, the Dukes had a first round tourney bye before defeating fourth-seeded Warwick. Gloucester then lost. 3-2. to second seeded Menchville in the final last Thursday. 

In regional play Monday, the Dukes lost, 3-2, to Maury and the Monarchs lost in three sets to Princess Anne, with both matches at Green Run High School.

GHS coach Josh Nichols was named the Conference 10 Boys’ Volleyball Coach of the Year. Named to the All-Conference 10 First Team were Trey Fortner and Hunter Green. Xander Cooke and Caleb Hines were named to the second team and Jason Wood was an honorable mention.
