GHS boys notch first win

A Friday foray into Warwick was a success for the Gloucester Dukes boys’ basketball, as they recorded their first victory of the season in a 63-60 win.

Jayden Whiting led the Dukes offensively with a stat line of 22 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Juwan Thornton in turn had a double-double, scoring 14 points while collecting 11 rebounds. Howard Hinnant IV continued to build on a solid individual season with 12 points and six rebounds of his own.

Gloucester held a three-point lead at the end of the first, leading the Raiders 14-11. Both teams found their offensive rhythm in the second quarter but Gloucester came out stronger, scoring 22 points in the quarter to take a 36-26 lead into halftime. The third quarter was a tightly-contested affair, with Gloucester outscoring Warwick by a single point, 16-15, in the period.

As the final quarter elapsed, Warwick would come roaring back offensively. A 19-point quarter would help the Raiders draw within three points of the Duk...
