GHS boys, girls earn bids to regional cross country meet

The Gloucester High School cross country squads began the post-season with success on Saturday with both the boys and girls earning bids to the Eastern Region Meet with their performances in the Peninsula District Championships at Newport News Park.

The Lady Dukes were third in the PD meet last Thursday, barely edged out by the rivals from Kecoughtan and Menchville. Gloucester freshman Anna Robins stunned the field, winning the individual title by a 42-second margin to lead her team to the third-place finish. Robins posted a race-winning time of 20:17.

Robins was followed by teammates Carrie Adams at 11th in 22:04, Ashley Pur-
rington at 15th in 22:30, Olivia Cross at 16th in 22:49, Leah Procopi at 17th in 22:56, Alex Londonberg at 32nd in 24:17 and Megan Hogge at 47th in 26:10.

The Gloucester boys won their third consecutive PD team title, scoring an impressively low 36 points to best runner-up Kecoughtan by a 30-point margin. All seven Dukes finished in the top 20 overall. K...
