The Gloucester High School varsity boys’ soccer team closed out its 2015 schedule with a 2-2 tie with Warwick on the road May 20. The Dukes posted a 9-5-2 record overall and went 2-2-2 in Conference 10 matches.
The contest with the Raiders was Gloucester’s last shot at getting a conference tournament berth. The Dukes had beaten Warwick at GHS earlier in the season.
Coming out strong, the Raiders’ all-state forward was able to slip through the Gloucester defense to make to score 1-0 at the 14th minute. About 20 minutes later, the Dukes got goals from Chris Bendit and P.J. LeBel to make it 2-1 at the half.
At the break, GHS coach Craig Raines told his players this could be the last 40 minutes of their high school careers and not to give the game away. However, the only second-half goal was scored by Warwick and Gloucester was not able to break the 2-2 tie.
