GHS Beta students pick up 400+ pounds of trash

The Gloucester High School Beta Club staged a litter cleanup on Saturday, Nov. 17, contributing to the removal of more than 400 pounds of waste from Belroi and Crab Thicket roads, and Short Lane. 
Nineteen members of the club along with their sponsor, Jacqueline Riva, addressed litter on Short Lane while other community members tackled the other locations over the course of November.
These locations are considered litter hot spots by the Gloucester Clean Community Committee. “Tackling litter hot spots is a year-round job … Fall and winter is a great time to clean up as vegetation dies back and makes litter easier to spot,” Clean Community Coordinator Leslie Bowie said.
While the committee sponsors two annual cleanups and seeks community assistance for those, efforts like that of the Beta Club can be scheduled at any time by calling 804-693-5370.
