GHS baseball scores 5-1 win over Hampton

After four consecutive one-run losses, the Gloucester High School varsity baseball team got back on the winning track with a 5-1 victory over visiting Hampton last Thursday.

Nick Brandt (2-2) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and went 2-2 at the plate with an RBI. The Dukes took an early lead with three runs in the first inning and one each in the second and third. The Crabbers were held scoreless until the fifth.

Brady Hudgins, Tristan Spears and Cody Brown each contributed two hits to the Dukes’ offensive effort.

The next day, Gloucester got by Kecoughtan, 3-2, with Jason Wood pitching a complete game seven-hitter. The Dukes fell behind early but rallied for three critical runs in the third and fourth to win.

The Warriors threatened in the top of the sixth with bases loaded and one out but Wood induced a hit into a 1-2-3 double play that closed the door. Brett Lindsay and Spears each had two hits and one RBI for the Dukes.
