GHS alumni perform with VT group at prestigious conference

Two Gloucester High School graduates were among the Virginia Tech students performing recently at the College Band Directors National Association’s Southern Division Conference.

Carnegie Hall accolades last April helped send the Virginia Tech Wind Ensemble to the Feb. 23 conference at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Gloucester High School alumni Rachel Abbott (2014) and Steven Arnold (2015) are members of this ensemble, which is Virginia Tech’s most elite band.

“The benefits of such a performance for our students and institution cannot be understated,” said Tech Wind Ensemble conductor Jonathan Caldwell. “CBDNA is the premier professional organization for wind band conductors, and no Virginia Tech ensemble has ever performed at one of its division conferences.”
