Get your pound cakes ready for May Faire

There is still time to bring out those favorite pound cake recipes. Get your mixer running and turn on the oven for May Faire’s second annual pound cake contest on Saturday, May 5.

No pre-registration is required. On the day of the contest bring your cake to the main county office building on Mathews Court Green entrance between 9-10 a.m.

Three qualified judges will judge each cake using the National Pound Cake criteria: Taste/Flavor—30, Overall Appearance—25, Consistency (size and shape)—15, Moistness and Crumb—20, and Creativity—10.

While it is not a requirement for entering the contest, competitors will be asked if they wish to donate their cakes—with written permission—to be sold after judging to benefit the Mathews County Historical Museum, sponsor of May Faire.

Awards will be made for first-place bragging rights, second-place boasting rights, third-place happy to be here, and a special award for best presentation. ...
