Gertrude Ann Cooke Diggs, 87, of Mathews, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025.

She was a graduate of Thomas Hunter High School and a member of First Baptist Church, Mathews.

Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Harris and Judy Gaskins; two sisters, Irma Cooke and Grace Williams; two brothers, Edgar Cooke and Michael Cooke; two grandsons, and three great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Scott Diggs; parents, Hartley and Grace Cooke; three brothers, Marshall Gwynn, Richard Cooke and Larry Cooke, and two sisters, Irene Spriggs and Adele Carter.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at First Baptist Church, Mathews. Viewing will be held from 10-11. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Carter’s Funeral Home–Denbigh Chapel, Newport News, is in charge of arrangements.
