GERDA ANNA HARVEY

Gerda Anna Harvey of Gloucester Point, formerly of Newport News, passed away on July 30, 2012 surrounded by family at the age of 89.
 
She was born in Blaubeuren, Germany on Dec. 30, 1922. 
 
Gerda was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Command Sergeant Major (ret.) Beryl W. Harvey; her parents, and six siblings of Germany.
 
Gerda was a kindergarten teacher during World War II in Germany. As a military wife she was active in Army Community Services and the American Red Cross. Her biggest joy in life was her family.
 
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Bryson and husband Brian of Manassas and Susan Cherrie and husband Patrick of Gloucester Point; granddaughter, Jillian Cherrie Balduf and husband James of Hayes; great-granddaughter, Savannah Riley Balduf, and another great-grandchild due in December.
 
Gerda is also survived by her dog, Britches, and many four-legged grandchildren.
 
Graveside funeral service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. Friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
 
The family would like to thank the physicians and Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for their compassionate care given to Gerda.
