GEORGE ROSS MURPHY JR.

George Ross Murphy Jr., age 73, passed away at his home in Hayes on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, unexpectedly from natural causes. Ross was born on Oct. 6, 1948, to the late George Ross Murphy Sr., and Rena Mae Schaffer Murphy in Alexandria, Virginia. Ross was a veteran having served nine years in the U.S. Army, attended Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, and was a Virginia Tech graduate. Ross lived in Ireland for 17 years before moving back to the USA. He and his wife Pam resided for two years in Manassas, Va., prior to making their home in Gloucester County in 2012. While living in Ireland, Ross wrote three novels, and a book of short stories. “You Will Never Dance Alone,” “Dancing with Devils,” “Sometime Soon,” and “An Seanchai” were his great literary accomplishments. In addition to his parents, brother, James Allen, and sister, Tommie Berry, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Shuster-Murphy; daughters, Siobhan Murphy, Aishling Bolinger (Andrew); Ross leaves his loving “grandchilders,” Aidan and Annabelle Bolinger; stepsons, James Prince (Danyelle); step-grandsons, Aaron, Jacob, and Dan Prince, Owen, Derek, and sister, Jean Allen. Ross will be missed by many lifelong friends and neighbors. He loved his life in Gloucester and took pleasure in his daily walks with his dog Lucy, working outside doing yard work, watching the birds from the back porch, and being with his friends and family. A Celebration of Life service conducted by Pastor Art Wolz will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, in the Chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

Inurnment will be private. Our family would like to thank Abingdon Fire & Rescue personnel and the outstanding assistance provided by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department.
