GEORGE FRANKLIN (PODDY) ASHBERRY

George Franklin (Poddy) Ashberry, CPO retired, 82, died July 5, 2017 at his home in Foster.

Mr. Ashberry served his country for 20 years active and 10 years reserve in the United States Navy during which he received several awards to include the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Achievement Medal and the Good Conduct Award. He loved his country and served with pride. 

He enjoyed fishing and boating in and around Mobjack Bay and the East River, and was most peaceful surrounded by those waters. He was devoted to and loved his family and will be greatly missed. 

He is survived by children, Susanne Mayer (Curtis), Jeffrey Ashberry, Stephen Ashberry (Lorraine), Ruth Ashberry and Laurie Ashberry; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton. Friends assembled at the cemetery. The family received friends Monday, July 10, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
