Gloucester County Public Schools recently welcomed Del. Keith Hodges (R-Urbanna) and Sen. Ryan T. McDougle (R-MechaniCsville) for school tours as part of the Virginia School Boards Association’s Take Your Legislator to School Month.
Both elected officials visited classrooms across the division to see how GCPS prepares students for career pathways, college readiness and life after graduation.
At Bethel Elementary School, students shared future career interests in areas such as coding, veterinary science, animal husbandry, marine trades, interior design and engineering, as well as their desire for additional clubs and early career exploration.
Students in Alexander Witowski’s technology and engineering class at Page Middle School were observed working with robotics, coding, engineering design and 3D printing. In Alice Chestnutt’s seventh grade Language Arts class, students engaged in skills-based literacy instruction that emphasized collaboration and student ownership of learning.
