Garton accepts position with Frederick County

Gloucester County Administrator Brenda Garton, who announced on March 3 that she is stepping down from her post after seven years, said this week that she will be leaving Gloucester to become county administrator of Frederick County, which is located in the northernmost tip of Virginia.

The announcement of her new position came just over a week after she issued her letter of resignation to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors, effective April 30.

Garton was quick to say her resignation from Gloucester was completely her choice and added that Frederick County, which is roughly twice the population of Gloucester, will be an advancement for her both personally and professionally. She officially begins her job there May 18.

Since coming to Gloucester in August 2008, Garton said she feels like she, with the help of county staff, has made accomplishments in three major areas. The first, she said, is contributing to a long-term stability that was needed when she assumed the post.
