Garden Club, Parks and Rec restore garden in park

The Garden Club of Gloucester and Mathews has partnered with Gloucester Parks and Recreation to restore the garden in Woodville Park.

A release said this effort is in response to a plea from Gloucester Parks and Rec for help from community groups and volunteers to help with restoration of the gardens in local parks.

Thirteen garden club members tackled the Woodville Park garden named in honor of park donors the Lanciano family. On May 31, armed against poison ivy and ready with pruners and rakes, they got to work. Parks Superintendent Gregg Tonge had previously sprayed the poison ivy to expedite its removal, and the department also provided tools and a trailer to haul off debris.

The work included pruning, removal of poison ivy and golden rod, and general cleaning up.
